Vyas, representing aggrieved Coldplay fans across India, lodged a formal criminal complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Mumbai. He claims that the online ticketing platforms engaged in unethical practices that obstructed genuine fans from buying tickets when the sale began at noon on September 22.

Mumbai: Amit Vyas, Founder Partner of Vertices Partners, initiated legal proceedings against BookMyShow and Live Nation Entertainment, accusing them of a large-scale ticketing fraud linked to the upcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai.

The allegations relate to ticket sales for Coldplay’s performances scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.

Vyas, representing aggrieved Coldplay fans across India, has lodged a formal criminal complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Mumbai. He claims that the online ticketing platforms engaged in unethical practices that obstructed genuine fans from buying tickets when the sale began at noon on September 22.

According to Vyas, these platforms manipulated user access, logging legitimate users out or blocking them from the site, thereby allowing ticket bots and black-market operators to dominate the sales process.

The complaint details that tickets were marked as sold out on BookMyShow only to reappear at inflated prices up to 50 times the original price on third-party resale sites like Viagogo. This has sparked widespread outrage among fans and raised suspicions of possible collusion between the ticketing platform and resellers.

Vyas further claims that key individuals within BookMyShow and Live Nation played a role in orchestrating this scam. He alleges the use of bots and manipulation of digital queues denied real fans access, infringing upon their consumer rights and violating various provisions of Indian criminal law.

Vyas has requested the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, citing offenses such as organized crime, cheating, criminal conspiracy, and breach of trust.

Additionally, Vyas intends to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court, seeking regulatory guidelines for major events to prevent such fraudulent practices in the future.
