Today, On 2nd August, Manorama Khedkar, the mother of former probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, granted bail by a Pune court after 14 days in judicial custody and four days in police custody for a criminal intimidation case.

Mumbai: Manorama Khedkar, mother of former probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, granted bail by a Pune court on Friday in a criminal intimidation case.
This decision comes after Manorama had spent 14 days in judicial custody, following a four-day stint in police custody. She apprehended on July 18 from a lodge located in Hirkaniwadi village near Mahad in Raigad district.
The arrest followed a police search initiated after a video emerged showing Manorama allegedly brandishing a gun and threatening individuals over a land dispute at Dhadwali village in Pune’s Mulshi tehsil in 2023.
Consequently, the Pune rural police charged Manorama, her husband Dilip Khedkar, and five others under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 307 (attempt to murder), 144 (unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon), 147 (rioting), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Additionally, provisions of the Arms Act also invoked.
Puja Khedkar, the daughter of Manorama, faces separate accusations of fraudulently obtaining benefits under the OBC and disability quotas. Her request for anticipatory bail was denied on Thursday, adding another layer of complexity to the family’s legal troubles.

After the video went viral, police launched a search operation and arrested Manorama on the morning of Thursday, July 18, from a lodge in Mahad, Raigad district, where she was hiding.
Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Pankaj Deshmukh, stated that Manorama Khedkar apprehended and brought to Paud, where she formally arrested. The incident came to light amid scrutiny of Puja Khedkar for demanding perks, such as a separate office and official car, not typically available to probationary officers.
Further investigations revealed issues regarding her UPSC candidacy, claims of disability, and her OBC certificate used to enter civil services.
