Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court granted bail to the wife and in-laws of techie Atul Subhash in an abetment of suicide case. Subhash tragically died by suicide on December 9, citing harassment from his wife and her family as the reason for his actions.
His wife, Nikita Singhania, along with her mother, Nisha Singhania, and brother, Anurag Singhania, sought bail from the session court after a prior request to the Karnataka High Court prompted the court to expedite the decision on their bail plea.
Following Subhash’s death, Nikita was arrested in Gurugram, while her mother and brother were apprehended in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The 34-year-old techie left behind a video and a 24-page note that outlined his marital struggles, allegations of harassment, and extortion attempts by his estranged wife, her relatives, and an Uttar Pradesh-based judge. He accused them of pushing him towards suicide through “false” cases and “persistent torture,” claiming his wife demanded Rs 3 crore to resolve their issues.
Subhash and Singhania were married in 2019 and had a son in 2020. Subhash’s parents are now seeking custody of their four-year-old grandson, expressing concern over his whereabouts.
Pawan Kumar, Subhash’s father, stated,
“My son was broken from inside… Even after torture by his wife and in-laws, he didn’t tell anyone about it. His suicide note also mentioned that his parents be given custody of his child.”
He added,
“We are waiting for the January 7 hearing in the Supreme Court regarding this matter.”
Kumar further alleged that Ms. Singhania treated her son as an “ATM,” asserting,
“She got money on the pretext of taking care of him… Hence, we have approached the Supreme Court for the custody of the child as he is safe with us.”
Atul Subhash’s counsel argued against allowing the accused wife to use the child as leverage to secure bail, emphasizing the severity of the alleged crimes.
Akash Jindal, the techie’s lawyer said,
“Our stand was that the crime they have committed is very heinous,”
He also mentioned a habeas corpus petition filed with the Supreme Court, which has directed authorities in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Haryana to ascertain the child’s whereabouts and will determine custody once the child is located.
