BHOPAL: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and members of the Pataudi family have finally won a decades-long legal battle over ancestral land in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The ruling by the Fourteenth Additional Sessions Judge, Sanjay Agarwal, brings an end to a dispute that has been ongoing for more than 20 years.
The case revolved around 16.62 acres of prime land in the Nayapura area of Bhopal. The court dismissed claims made by Aqeel Ahmed and others, who alleged that the property was gifted in 1936 by Nawab Hamidullah Khan, the former ruler of Bhopal, to their ancestors.
During the lengthy legal proceedings, the petitioners failed to provide credible documentary evidence supporting their claim. In contrast, the Pataudi family’s legal team, led by Syed Faizan Hussain, presented revenue records confirming that the land had been consistently registered in the Nawab family’s name.
The court highlighted two critical points in its judgment:
- Lack of Evidence: The petitioners could not substantiate their ownership claims.
- Delay in Filing: The petition was filed after a long, unexplained delay.
On these grounds, the court dismissed the case, affirming the Pataudi family’s ownership of the land.
