Joshi criticized the Waqf law, calling it a mistake, and claimed that officials are demanding documents from farmers while adding Waqf entries without proper verification. He suggested this process burdens farmers and raises questions about transparency in land records. According to him, this unchecked practice has caused confusion and mistrust among affected landowners. Joshi argued for a review of the law to address these issues and ensure fairness.

Hubballi: Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, called the “Waqf law a mistake” and stated that “removing it entirely would be ideal.”

Speaking in Dharwad on Tuesday, he questioned why the Congress introduced the Waqf law during Nehru’s time and expanded the powers of Waqf Boards in 2013.

He asked,

“Does this law hold unquestionable authority that even the Supreme Court cannot challenge?”

He furhter added,

“if this law is removed, everything will fall into place.”

Joshi stressed the need to at least amend the Waqf law to “restrict those who use Waqf as a pretext to grab land,” warning of its limitless powers.

He said, urging Hindus and farmers to remain vigilant,

“It will be no surprise if the Waqf Board claims ownership of our homes and land in the future,”

He accused Congress of “appeasement politics” by granting the Waqf Board excessive authority, which he called “unacceptable in any form.”

The minister alleged that officials, in complicity with Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan and Congress, have supported the Waqf Board in seizing farmers’ properties, temples, monasteries, and even land belonging to poor Muslims.

Joshi demanded immediate suspension of the tahsildar and officials involved in altering land records to declare farmers’ lands as Waqf property in Dharwad district, cautioning that failure to correct the records may lead to significant protests.

In response to recent developments in Dharwad, where officials allegedly amended land records to declare certain farmers’ lands as Waqf property, Joshi demanded immediate action. He called for the suspension of the tahsildar and officials involved in these modifications, claiming they had coerced farmers into submitting documents while entering Waqf ownership records without verification.

Joshi cautioned that if these records were not corrected, it could lead to widespread protests, reflecting the level of discontent and concern among landowners and farmers.
