In a first action under the Waqf Act, an illegally constructed madrasa on government land was demolished in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district. Despite longstanding local complaints, authorities acted only recently to remove the structure.

In a major development after the Waqf Act came into effect, officials in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh found an illegally built madrasa on government land in BD Colony, an important part of the town.

This action prompted by a formal complaint submitted to BJP state President Vishnu Dutt Sharma, which alleged that the “madrasa was built on government property and was involved in unlawful or anti-national activities.”

In response to the complaint, officials took swift action, leading the local administration to issue demolition orders. Sources indicate that the madrasa had been operating for a considerable time, despite numerous objections and complaints from local residents.

However, substantial action had not been taken until now.

The recent enforcement has elicited strong reactions within the community and communicated a clear message regarding the government’s commitment to addressing illegal encroachments and dubious institutions.

Vishnu Dutt Sharma stated,

“We received complaints that government land was being misused for illegal purposes under the guise of a madrasa. Strict action is necessary in such cases to maintain law and order.”

Abdul Hameed, the District President of the Waqf Board and the original complainant, asserted that the madrasa was run by Abdul Rauf Qadri, an outsider accused of encroaching on the land and engaging in questionable activities.

He remarked,

“It was not just an illegal structure, but a hub of suspicious activities. It was high time the authorities acted,”

Sanjay Nagvanshi, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Panna, confirmed that the administration acted promptly following directives from BJP leadership.

He explained,

“Despite multiple prior complaints, this matter gained priority only after reaching BD Sharma. We are now ensuring the land is cleared and secured,”

Interestingly, those responsible for constructing the illegal madrasa began dismantling it on their own after the administration’s orders.

However, they did not speak to the media or provide any formal statements, although they were observed making serious but unverified allegations.

The demolition has created widespread discussion in the region, with many viewing it as a strong example of the implementation of the new Waqf Law and the administration’s determination to reclaim public land from illegal occupation.
