Tushar Mehta’s re-appointment comes after his initial appointment as Solicitor General in October 2018, with his term being extended from time to time since then. The term for all the law officers, including Mehta, is set for three years, or until further notice, whichever should be earlier. This decision ensures the continuity of experienced legal counsel at the helm of the country’s judiciary.

In addition to the re-appointments for the Supreme Court, the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet also approved the reappointment of other law officers for various High Courts. Chetan Sharma and Satya Pal Jain were reappointed as Additional Solicitor Generals of the High Court of Delhi, advocate Devang Girish Vyas for the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Krishna Nandan Singh for the High Court of Gujarat.

These re-appointments reflect the government’s trust in the capabilities of these experienced legal professionals. Their continued service will undoubtedly contribute to the efficient functioning of the country’s judiciary. The re-appointment of Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor-General of India, in particular, is a testament to his significant contributions to the legal field in his previous term. His expertise and experience will continue to be invaluable in his role as the second most senior law officer in the country.
