Another tragic incident occurred at NLU Delhi, where first-year student Shreyashi Chandra died by suicide at her home on Sunday. This marks another student suicide at the prestigious law university. The incident has raised concerns over student mental health. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the case.

New Delhi: A first-year undergraduate student at National Law University (NLU) Delhi, Shreyashi Chandra, tragically died by suicide at her home on Sunday. This marks the third such incident in recent weeks.

In memory of the student, the University designated September 30 and October 1 as non-teaching days.

Previously, first-year student Shah Khushil Vishal and third-year student Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar also died by suicide.

At the time of publishing, the University had not provided a response regarding any steps taken to ensure student welfare.

Shreyashi Chandra’s death follows two other similar incidents at NLU Delhi within a short span. First-year student Shah Khushil Vishal and third-year student Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar also tragically died by suicide earlier. These repeated incidents have cast a spotlight on the mental health crisis that seems to be growing among students at NLU Delhi, reflecting a broader issue within competitive academic institutions across the country.

While the administration at NLU Delhi responded to these incidents by declaring non-teaching days, questions have been raised about what other measures are being taken to support students’ mental health. At the time of publishing, the university had not issued a detailed response regarding what actions it has implemented or plans to implement to ensure better welfare and mental health support for its students.

The tragic suicides at NLU Delhi are not isolated incidents but part of a broader trend of mental health challenges faced by students across India, particularly in high-stress academic environments like law schools, medical schools, and engineering colleges. Over the past few years, there has been an increasing awareness of student suicides, with mental health experts calling for urgent interventions.
