PUNE: In a shocking incident that has drawn widespread attention, a couple from Pune, Maharashtra, legally ended their marriage just 24 hours after their wedding ceremony. Despite being in a love marriage and having dated for nearly three years, the relationship collapsed almost immediately due to irreconcilable differences over living arrangements.
According to reports, the woman is a medical professional (doctor), while the man is an engineer. The couple had been in a committed relationship for several years before deciding to tie the knot.
However, crucial aspects of their future life together reportedly remained unresolved until after the wedding.
The core issue emerged immediately after the wedding. The husband revealed that his job involved working on a ship, requiring him to stay away from land for long, uncertain durations. He was unable to specify:
- Where he would be posted
- How long would he remain at sea
- When or where the couple would establish a matrimonial home
This revelation led to a serious conflict, particularly because the wife’s medical profession requires stability and a fixed location.
Advocate Rani Sonawane, who represented the couple, confirmed that the dispute arose solely due to ideological and practical differences, not due to any criminal or abusive behavior.
“The marriage was a love marriage, and the couple had known each other for two to three years prior to tying the knot. Surprisingly, such an important issue regarding the husband’s maritime job and living arrangements was never clearly discussed,”
she said.
She further emphasized that there were no allegations of domestic violence, dowry harassment, or criminal misconduct.

This case is exceptional in the calm and mutual nature of the separation. Both individuals agreed that the marriage was unworkable and decided to part ways peacefully.
