Today, On 28th November, Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone have expressed concern over a court notice regarding a suit that claims the Ajmer Sharif Dargah is built on the site of a Shiva temple. They described the development as “another shocker” and raised alarms over the implications for religious harmony. The case has sparked tensions, with political leaders warning against attempts to alter historical narratives. The controversy is intensifying as the court proceedings continue.

Srinagar: Sajad Gani Lone, President of the J&K Peoples Conference and MLA for Handwara, voiced strong opposition to a recent court ruling that allows for the survey of the revered Sufi shrine, Ajmer Sharif, in search of remnants of an ancient Hindu temple.
In an official statement, Lone criticized what he sees as misplaced priorities and a troubling regression within Indian society. He referred to the situation as “yet another shocker,” commenting on the lawsuit aimed at uncovering a temple “supposedly hidden somewhere in the Ajmer Dargah Sharif.”
With the arrival of 2024, which he sees as the dawn of the Artificial Intelligence era, Lone lamented that society has chosen a path of regression instead.
He stated,
“And as Indians, let us be honest we have not contributed to any technological revolution. Yes, we have the resources to utilize technology through purchase, but scientific innovation? No. None. Not even remotely,”
He expressed concern that the nation seems entirely consumed by an obsession with discovering hidden temples, noting,
“And make no mistake, a statistically significant section of the population is applauding it.”
He added,
“The more educated they are, the more likely they are to be involved in temple searches. Those who should lead the charge in the Indian tech revolution are instead preoccupied with mythologizing.”
Reflecting on a recent visit to Dubai, Lone commended the UAE for its spirit of tolerance and evolution.
He remarked,
“I was recently in Dubai and saw the magnificence of the temples built there. What an oasis of tolerance and mutual respect Dubai has become. Every nationality lives there in harmony. I visited in the late nineties what an evolution. They truly deserve to be proud of their transformation into excellence,”
Disheartened by the situation in his own country, Lone reflected,
“Looking back at my own country… How we have regressed. The electoral victories have come at a cost, leaving this country soulless. Once defined by its soulfulness, this nation is tragically now soulless and in search of a soul.”
He emphasized that Ajmer’s spiritual and inclusive legacy embodies the essence of spirituality, serving as a place where individuals of all faiths converge, regardless of religion, caste, or creed, united by a shared belief in the spiritual deliverance offered by this great center of spirituality.

Addressing the ideological struggles in Kashmir, he pointed out the clear divisions between moderate and extremist ideologies, even among separatist factions.
He affirmed,
“Thousands of lives were lost in the battle between moderates and extremists. Yet the moderates did not surrender. And moderates, inshallah, will never surrender,”
In conclusion, Lone reiterated his belief in the enduring strength of tolerance and mutual respect,
“The ideology of moderation, tolerance, and mutual respect will prevail.”
