NEW DELHI: National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi), one of India’s top law universities, has announced new job openings for the position of Assistant Professor on a contractual basis.
These faculty positions are being offered for the academic session only and come with a fixed salary of Rs 70,000 per month.
This recruitment is for a short-term contract of six (6) months only.
As per the official notification,
“National Law University Delhi invites applications for Faculty Positions of Assistant Professors on contractual basis for an initial period of six (06) months.”
Interested and eligible candidates must apply online only through the university’s website (www.nludelhi.ac.in) by June 18, 2025.
The university has clearly said,
“Application should be submitted only in online mode latest by June 18, 2025 through the link available in the university website- http://www.nludelhi.ac.in”.
Vacancies and Subjects
There are three Assistant Professor vacancies, each in different law subjects:
- IPR (Intellectual Property Rights)
- Insolvency Law
- Constitutional Law
Each post requires the following:
- LL.M. with 55% marks in the respective subject.
- UGC-NET/SLAT (Law) or a Ph.D. as per UGC rules.
- Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in the subject.
- Quality publication in the same subject area.
Important Rules and Instructions
Candidates must make sure they meet all the eligibility criteria by the last date. If not, they could be disqualified. NLU Delhi has strictly mentioned,
“Candidates applying for a post must ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions on the last date fixed for receipt of applications. If on verification at any stage, before or after the selection, it is found that the candidate did not fulfil any of the eligibility condition(s)…his candidature will be cancelled/his services will be terminated.”
Also, just having the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
The university clearly stated,
“The possession of a prescribed essential qualification does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.”
The positions are purely temporary, with no chance of being made permanent later.
As clarified,
“This position is limited and it shall have no claim whatsoever for regularization in this University. It shall also not carry the service benefits, which are generally admissible to the regular faculty members of the University.”
Other Key Details
- Application must be complete with all required documents and application fee.
- Incomplete applications or those without fees will be rejected without notice.
- Application not supported with the required application fee, self-attested copies of certificates/testimonials will be rejected.
- The application fee is Rs 500, but SC, ST, and PWD candidates do not need to pay.
- The form must be submitted only via online mode.
For candidates already in a job, it is necessary to apply through the proper channel. Failing to give correct information or hiding facts can lead to legal action, as warned in the notification:
“Concealment of facts or supply of wrong information will result in cancellation of candidature in addition to legal action.”
The university will shortlist applicants based on quality, research, teaching experience, and more. It added that,
“The incumbent shall possess advanced skills, experience and abilities demonstrated by the type of institutions served, goals achieved, research carried out and impact made would be a deciding factors in keeping the higher standards of national-level higher education institution conducting the professional courses in a competitive eco system.”
There is no travel allowance for attending interviews, and only shortlisted candidates will be called. It is important to note that being eligible does not mean you will be selected, as stated:
“Candidates shall be called for interview after due scrutiny and short listing of the applications. Being eligible shall not confer any right to be called for interview.”
The university also mentioned,
“The University reserves the right to withhold the post at any stage before appointment.”
