KOLKATA: The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Kolkata Bench has suspended all video conferencing (VC) hearings effective immediately. This decision comes following a reported cybersecurity issue, with the NIC (National Informatics Centre) yet to confirm that the digital systems are secure for resumption.
As per the official order issued by the NCLT Secretariat on July 30, 2025, all stakeholders are now directed to appear physically before the Bench. The tribunal clarified that the suspension would continue “until clearance is received from NIC confirming that the systems are secure.”
This isn’t the first time Indian courts or tribunals have been compelled to restrict digital operations due to security breaches. In December 2023, the Karnataka High Court suspended the live streaming of its proceedings, citing potential misuse of its video conferencing facilities. Similarly, in late 2024, NCLT Mumbai temporarily paused virtual hearings after a hacking incident, where hackers interrupted the proceedings with inappropriate content.
The NCLT Kolkata Daily Cause List for August 1, 2025, confirms that all hearings are now being conducted in physical mode before Hon’ble Members Ms. Rekha Kantilal Shah (T) and Shri Labh Singh (J), reflecting the tribunal’s strict implementation of the directive.
