BARABANKI: In a shocking act of violence on the Lucknow-Sultanpur Highway, a lawyer was brutally assaulted by toll plaza employees in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh following a minor dispute. The incident occurred at the Bara Toll Plaza and has ignited outrage among the legal community after a video of the attack emerged on social media.

Reports indicate that the victim, Ratnesh Shukla, a lawyer from Pratapgarh, was en route to the Lucknow High Court in his private vehicle when the confrontation began.

Tensions escalated over a trivial matter at the toll gate, leading to a verbal dispute between Shukla and the toll booth staff. Eyewitness accounts describe how the situation quickly became physical, with aggressive toll workers surrounding Shukla, pursuing him, and subjecting him to a severe beating.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral across various social media platforms, reveals the brutal nature of the attack. The footage shows the toll employees not only assaulting the lawyer but also forcing him to apologize under duress.

The attackers while continuing their assault can be heard yelling,

“Say sorry… say sorry, you were rude,”

The widespread circulation of the video and news of the assault provoked an immediate and intense response from the legal community. A significant number of lawyers convened at the Haidergarh Kotwali police station to protest against the “hooliganism” exhibited by the toll plaza staff and demanded urgent legal action against the assailants.

In light of the unrest and the serious nature of the allegations, law enforcement acted promptly. Haidergarh Kotwali Inspector Abhimanyu Mall confirmed that a case has been registered following a written complaint (tahrir) from the victim.

Inspector Mall stated,

“Based on the complaint regarding the assault on lawyer Ratnesh Shukla, we have registered a case. Three toll employees, identified as Golu, Ravi Verma, and Lavlesh Mishra, have been taken into custody.”
