A shocking discovery unfolded as a law clerk’s body found near a technician studio, raising suspicions of foul play. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, searching for clues and potential suspects. Kolkata: The body of a 31-year-old law clerk was discovered near Technician Studio on Uttam Kumar Sarani around 3 am on Wednesday.
Police identified the victim as Anup Mondal, who lived in Mondapara, near Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital in Haridevpur.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Mondal was employed as a clerk for a senior advocate in the city. According to the police, two individuals were with him at the time of the incident but fled the scene, and authorities are working to identify them.

Deputy Commissioner (SSD-Jadavpur), Bidisha Kalita stated,
“All three were riding a motorcycle after attending a late-night party. The bike hit a bumper, causing Mondal to fall. His helmet was thrown off and landed about a meter away. He succumbed to head injuries,”
Police mentioned that a guard at a nearby bus parking lot and a delivery agent are considered key witnesses in the case.
As per Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (CrPC), the police are required to conduct an inquest to determine the apparent cause of death in cases involving unnatural deaths. If there is suspicion of foul play, further investigation under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder or Section 304 IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder may be initiated.

The authorities will also rely on forensic examination and post-mortem reports under the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, which will play a crucial role in determining whether the death was accidental, suicidal, or homicidal.
Given the nature of the case, the matter will likely be investigated by the local police and then presented before the Magistrate’s Court under Section 190 CrPC for cognizance. If charges are framed for murder or related offenses, the trial will proceed before a Sessions Court as per Section 209 CrPC.
