At the general council meeting held on Wednesday, Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay broke his silence on the tragic Karur stampede incident. Speaking for the first time since the tragedy,

Vijay launched a strong attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, accusing him of “peddling lies” and trying to “score political points without humanity.”

Vijay explained that he had chosen to remain silent so far out of respect for those who lost their lives in the Karur incident. However, he said he now wanted to give a “civilised reply” to the remarks made about his party, TVK, in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Referring to recent observations made by the Supreme Court, Vijay questioned the decision of the Madras High Court’s principal bench to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

He pointed out that the plea before the Madurai bench had only asked for standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be framed for future rallies.

He noted that even the Supreme Court had criticised “top officers of the police department” for making comments to the media that could affect the impartiality of the investigation.

Quoting the court, Vijay asked how a single judge could arrive at the decision to form an SIT

“without any formal prayer for it,” adding that “the whole country witnessed” how the state’s lawyers “struggled before the court.”

Continuing his criticism, Vijay asked whether the Chief Minister was speaking “high on power.”

Vijay also accused the state government of purposely restricting TVK’s public programmes. He said the administration rejected larger venues and instead provided smaller, crowded ones.

According to him, “no other political leader in the country” faces such restrictions. He revealed that during his events, he was told to “stay inside the bus” and that he “can’t wave outside.”

He also raised questions about how the government handled the situation after the stampede. He criticised the “hasty” appointment and quick dissolution of a one-man inquiry commission and objected to the immediate press briefing by government officials.

Turning his attention to future politics, Vijay made a bold declaration about the 2026 elections. He said that the next electoral battle in Tamil Nadu would be “only between TVK and DMK” and that the ruling party would once again have to “bow down to people’s mandate.”

In a strong remark about the ruling party’s credibility, Vijay said,

“The trust people of Tamil Nadu have in this government has gone to the mud.”

He assured that TVK’s political fight would continue to grow stronger and declared that his party would achieve “100 per cent victory” in the next polls.

Ending his speech on an emotional note, Vijay clarified that his response was not made out of anger but to defend his party and supporters. Referring to those who lost their lives in the Karur tragedy, he said they were “our family members.”
