A man who accused KCR of corruption in the Kaleshwaram project was found murdered, police said. The victim, N Rajalingamurthy, in his 50s, was fatally stabbed by two unidentified attackers. Authorities ruled out any political motive, attributing the murder to a land dispute. Investigations are ongoing to identify the culprits.

Hyderabad: A man who had filed a court case against former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, alleging corruption in the construction of the Medigadda barrage as part of the Kaleshwaram project, was found murdered on Wednesday in Jayashankar Bhupalpally town, according to police reports.

Authorities have ruled out any political motive in the incident, stating that the victim, N Rajalingamurthy, in his 50s, was killed in a stabbing related to land disputes by two unidentified assailants.

According to a police official, Rajalingamurthy was attacked while riding his motorcycle around 7:30 PM and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a hospital. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

Rajalingamurthy previously filed a private complaint in October 2023, requesting the registration of an FIR against KCR and others after some piers of the Medigadda barrage reportedly “sank.”

KCR, along with his nephew and former minister T Harish Rao, later approached the Telangana High Court, which in December of last year suspended an order by the principal district sessions judge in Jayashankar Bhupalpally that had allowed a petition against them.

This incident brings to light concerns regarding the safety and protection of whistleblowers in India. The Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2014, was enacted to provide a mechanism for individuals to report corruption and misuse of power by public servants, offering safeguards against victimization. However, as of now, this Act has not been brought into force

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) is one of the largest lift irrigation projects in the world, located in Telangana, India. It was designed to utilize water from the Godavari River to irrigate vast agricultural lands and provide drinking water to various districts in the state.
