Emphasizing a consistent approach, he stated, “I’ve granted bail from A to Z, from Arnab to Zubair.” CJI Chandrachud highlighted his commitment to ensuring justice through timely bail, underscoring his dedication to uphold individual rights in each case.
At a recent Indian Express Adda event, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud discussed his approach to bail decisions during his two-year tenure.
He noted that while the Supreme Court received 21,000 new bail applications, it had disposed of 21,358 cases.
Addressing concerns over bail delays, he remarked,
“Speaking for myself, I’ve always said that I’ve granted bail from A to Z , from Arnab to Zubair. That is my philosophy.”
During the event, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud addressed the recent controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting his home for Ganesh Pujan.
Emphasizing the importance of trust in the judiciary, he described such interactions as part of the “routine dialogue” between the executive and judiciary.
“The fact of the matter is,”
He stated,
“Deals are never cut like this. So please, trust us; we are not there to cut deals.”
CJI Chandrachud, who is set to retire on November 10, urged people to have faith in the integrity of the judicial process.
