Sources indicate that the victim dinner with two first-year postgraduate trainees around midnight before they went to the seminar room to watch Neeraj Chopra‘s javelin event at the Olympics. Around 2 a.m., the two trainees went to the sleep room where on-duty doctors rest, while the victim remained in the seminar room. The intern stated that he was in the interns’ room. All three rooms the seminar hall, the sleep room, and the interns’ room are located near each other on the third floor.
At around 9:30 a.m., one of the postgraduate trainee doctors who had dinner with the victim the previous night went to check on her before the ward rounds began. He noticed her body was “motionless from a distance,” according to the timeline provided by Kolkata Police. He then alerted his colleagues and senior doctors, who informed the hospital authorities.
The CBI received approval to conduct lie-detector tests on the four doctors involved, as well as Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who faced criticism for his handling of the incident.
A special court granted permission for the tests yesterday. Lie-detector tests can only be conducted with court approval and the consent of the individuals involved.
