NEW DELHI: On Thursday (4th July): DMK Rajya Sabha MP P. Wilson met Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and submitted a representation outlining demands for the establishment of Permanent Regional Benches of the Supreme Court in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, representing South, North, West, and East Zones respectively, along with a Constitution Bench in Delhi.

The representation also emphasized the need for social justice and diversity in judicial appointments to the Supreme Court and High Courts. It proposed raising the retirement age of High Court Judges from 62 to 65 years and Supreme Court Judges from 65 to 70 years through Constitutional amendments.
Wilson stated in his post that the law minister had received his representation with an assurance to look into the matter. Wilson further added, “I always believe that persistent efforts will never fail.”
Mr. Wilson mentioned that Mr. Meghwal received his representation and assured him of reviewing it.

Additionally, it called for the notification of appointments withheld by the Supreme Court collegium for various High Court Judges, ensuring their placement based on collegium recommendations.
