Today, On 21st May, The Youth Congress filed a police complaint against BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya and Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami, accusing them of spreading false information about the party’s activities in Turkey to mislead the public.

The Youth Congress initiated legal action against BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly disseminating misinformation regarding the party’s operations in Turkey.

Malviya and Goswami have been charged under sections 192 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following an FIR filed at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru on Monday by Shrikant Swaroop B N, head of the Indian Youth Congress’s legal cell.

This development occurs amid rising tensions between India and Turkey, fueled by Turkey’s support for Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s military operation, Operation Sindoor.

The Congress party has accused Malviya and Goswami of deliberately orchestrating a “heinous and criminally motivated campaign to spread false information.”

The FIR claims that the two propagated a misleading assertion that the Istanbul Congress Centre was an official office of the Indian National Congress (INC).

The complaint stated,

“This act was executed with clear and undeniable criminal intent to deceive the Indian public, defame a major political party, stir nationalist emotions, incite unrest, and compromise national security,”

Swaroop further alleged that this misinformation campaign was a calculated effort to tarnish the Congress party’s reputation and manipulate public sentiment.

Swaroop also urged for prompt action to “dismantle the disinformation network, prosecute the accused, and reinforce public trust in democratic institutions and the rule of law.”

He called on regulatory and investigative bodies, including the Press Council of India, the News Broadcasters and Digital Association, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Central Bureau of Investigation, to regard the case as a matter of national urgency.
