Madani emphasized the need for immediate judicial intervention to safeguard law and order. His appeal seeks to prevent the misuse of surveys as tools to create societal divisions.

Lucknow: Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani addressed a letter to Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna, urging immediate intervention to preserve law and order and social harmony.
He expressed concern that activities conducted under the guise of surveys are eroding public trust and inciting unrest, social discrimination, and anxiety.
A recent incident in Sambhal, UP, which involved the brutal killing of citizens by police, serves as a stark example.
He urged the CJI to take action against what he described as a conspiracy to incite communal tensions under the guise of mosque surveys.
Madani stated,
“Activities conducted under the pretext of surveys have led to mistrust and unrest in various regions, including Sambhal, threatening public peace and communal harmony. These events are seen as a direct threat to the secular fabric of our nation.”
In a statement released by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Madani emphasized that the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, was enacted to promote communal harmony and prevent disputes over places of worship.
He noted,
“However, recent developments, especially the Supreme Court’s remarks that surveys are not prohibited under the Act, have inadvertently provided a justification for certain groups to incite discord.”
Madani warned,
“The misuse of such surveys has the potential to undermine the social harmony we have carefully built since independence.”
He called for the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of the situation and act decisively to prevent further communal tensions, thereby upholding the spirit of the 1991 Act and the rule of law.
He concluded,
“The Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind believes that timely judicial intervention is crucial to avert widespread violence and protect the unity and integrity of our nation. We hope that the judiciary will reaffirm its commitment to justice and social harmony through prompt action,”
He stated,
“The poison of communalism is being propagated in the name of surveys,”
Highlighting that petitions for surveys on various mosques are contributing to the fragmentation of national unity and undermining the country’s secular framework.

Given the current situation, he stressed the necessity for the Chief Justice to fulfill his responsibilities and act as a strong pillar for the country.
