The election committee overseeing the Bar Council of Delhi elections has withdrawn suspension notices issued to 63 candidates for violating the model code of conduct and election rules. The committee reversed the action after reviewing their explanations today.

The election committee overseeing the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) elections has lifted the suspension of 63 candidates who were issued notices for breaching the model code of conduct and election regulations.

In a statement released on Monday morning, the election committee clarified that a suspension notice had initially been sent to 79 candidates.

After 63 of them provided their explanations, the committee decided to withdraw the notices against these individuals.

The election committee stated,

“The remaining 16 candidates have been given 12 hours’ further time to respond to the Notices,”

The notice issued on February 23, 2026, by Justice Talwant Singh ,Former Judge, Delhi High Court, who is serving as the Returning Officer for the BCD, clarifies the status of the candidates and offers instructions for voters ahead of the upcoming polls.

Previously, the Election Committee issued suspension notices to 79 candidates on February 22, 2026, giving them a strict 12-hour deadline to respond to allegations of violations.

As per the official communication (Ref. No. BCD/Elect-2026/310), the situation is as follows:

  • Explanations Accepted: Among the 79 candidates notified, 63 submitted their explanations within the given timeframe. The Election Committee has accepted these responses and has subsequently lifted the suspension notices. These candidates have been “advised to strictly abide by the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).”
  • Pending Responses: The remaining 16 candidates have not yet had their notices resolved and have been given an additional 12 hours to respond to the Notices.

To address the voting process, the Returning Officer has provided a clarification to eliminate any potential confusion among voters regarding candidate eligibility.

The notice specifies,

“It is clarified that Voters can vote for any 23 candidates out of 221 candidates, including the 16 candidates.”

Although the status of the 16 candidates is still pending, they will remain on the ballot for now.

The official Election Portal of the Bar Council of Delhi at www.bcdelection2026.com has published both the list of candidates whose notices have been withdrawn and those still awaiting responses.
