A 40-year-old Delhi businessman, Puneet Khurana, was found dead at his home in a suspected suicide amid an ongoing divorce dispute. His family alleges harassment by his wife and her family, citing a 59-minute video recording left by Puneet detailing the ordeal. Police are investigating the case, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident mirrors a recent similar case in Bengaluru.

New Delhi: A 40-year-old businessman named Puneet Khurana was found dead in his home in the Model Town area of northwest Delhi on December 31. His family has accused his wife and in-laws of harassment, while police are investigating the possibility of suicide.

Khurana, a resident of Kalyan Vihar, was found dead on his bed, with strangulation marks on his neck, suggesting death by hanging.

According to police, they received a call about the incident at 4:18 PM. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh confirmed that Khurana’s mobile phone and other evidence have been secured.

He stated,

“The body will be handed over to the family members after post-mortem,”

The body has been sent to BJRM Hospital for further examination.

Khurana’s family claims he endured mental harassment from his wife, Manika Pahwa, and her relatives.

His mother told ,

“She used to keep torturing him. I want justice for him.”

She added that he refrained from sharing details with them to avoid causing worry. His sister supported these claims, revealing,

“Puneet’s wife, her sister, and parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes, in which Puneet has mentioned details of the harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet’s social media account.”

Sources indicate that the couple, married in 2016, began experiencing issues two years into their marriage, eventually initiating divorce proceedings through mutual consent, which were still in court. Khurana’s family mentioned that his final conversation with his wife concerned their bakery business, in which they were partners.

This tragic case follows another incident in Bengaluru, where a 34-year-old tech professional, Atul Subhash, was found dead on December 9, having left a 90-minute video and a 40-page note detailing similar allegations against his wife and in-laws. The investigation into Khurana’s death is ongoing, with authorities analyzing the video mentioned by his family.

Earlier, in December, 2024, Atul Subhash, who worked for an automobile company in Bengaluru, allegedly took his own life after being pressured for a Rs 3 crore divorce settlement. He ended his life in his apartment early on December 9, leaving behind a 90-minute video and a 40-page death note detailing how the harassment from his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family led him to this tragic decision.

Three individuals in connection with Atul Subhash’s suicide his wife, her mother, and brother were arrested by Bengaluru Police and have been placed in 14-day judicial custody.

Nikita’s family has countered by alleging that Atul Subhash demanded a substantial dowry from them, which they claim contributed to the death of her father.
