NEW DELHI: Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, an officer of the Indian Legal Services, has been given the important responsibility of serving as the Secretary of the Department of Legal Affairs under the Central Ministry of Law and Justice.
This is a big achievement, as she has become the first woman ever to hold this position.
Before this appointment, Dr. Anju Rathi Rana was working as an Additional Secretary in the same department. Now, she will take charge as Secretary and will continue in this role for two years from the date she officially assumes her duties.
A notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet clearly mentioned this decision.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, ILS, Additional Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs to the post of Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, initially for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier,”
-the notification dated March 5 reads.
This appointment is a significant moment in the history of the Indian legal system, as it marks a step forward in recognizing the leadership capabilities of women in high-ranking government positions.
