Aditya Pandit, boyfriend of deceased Air India pilot Shrishti Tuli, has applied for bail, asserting no evidence supports claims of inciting her suicide. He contends his arrest follows a complaint by Tuli’s father, alleging disputes related to their dietary preferences caused stress. The court has requested police input and postponed the hearing to December 23.

Mumbai: Aditya Pandit, the jailed boyfriend of a 25-year-old Air India pilot who committed suicide last month, has filed a bail plea in a Mumbai court, claiming that no case of incitement to suicide is made out against him. The accused, a 27-year-old, argued that his arrest was solely based on an FIR filed against him. The court has asked the police to submit their response and adjourned the hearing to Monday, December 23.

The victim, Shrishti Tuli, was found hanging in her rented Mumbai flat last month. Tuli, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had moved to Mumbai in June 2023 for work. She met Aditya during a commercial pilot course in Delhi two years ago, and the two were in a relationship.

Aditya was arrested the day after the incident on charges of abetting Tuli’s suicide. According to the police, Tuli’s father filed a complaint against Aditya, alleging that disputes between the couple led to the tragic event.

Tuli’s father alleged that the couple often fought over their differing food preferences. “Tuli was a non-vegetarian, while Aditya was a vegetarian,” he stated, adding that Aditya had been pressurizing Tuli to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle. He claimed that this pressure contributed to his daughter’s decision to take her life.

In his bail plea, Aditya denied the allegations, stating that he had been concerned for Tuli’s safety. He recounted the events leading to the discovery of her death, claiming that while driving to Delhi after meeting her, he received a call from Tuli threatening to end her life. Concerned, Aditya said he repeatedly tried calling her but received no response.

Upon returning to her flat in Mumbai, Aditya found the door locked from the inside.

“After knocking several times without any response, I called a key maker to open the door and found Tuli hanging,”

he explained in his plea.

The plea also argued that there is no evidence in the FIR or otherwise to suggest that Aditya abetted the suicide.

“Without admitting any of the allegations, the FIR does not substantiate a case of incitement,”

the bail application stated.
