Chennai: On Thursday, April 4: The Madras High Court raised concerns over the actions of the Coimbatore police, who registered a criminal case against a local school’s management. The case was filed merely because the school’s students were present in their uniforms during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow on March 18.

Justice G Jayachandran, during the court hearing of a petition filed by the school’s principal, S Pukul Vadivu, questioned whether a criminal case could be initiated solely based on the complaint of a Child Protection Officer.
The court requested the police provide a written explanation by April 8, clarifying how the presence of schoolchildren in uniform warranted a criminal case against the school management.
The officer alleged that the school compelled its students to attend the roadshow, invoking charges under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The court also questioned the reliance on news reports as the primary source of information for the complaint.
