Thiruvananthapuram: A Kerala court gave a big decision on Wednesday, sentencing 8 workers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to life imprisonment. This was for the 2013 murder of Kattakada Ashokan, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
The Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram had earlier, on January 10, found Shambhu, Sreejith, Hari, Ambili, Santhosh, Sajeev, Ashokan (also called Anni), and Prashanth (also known as Pazhinji) guilty of the murder.

The murder of Ashokan happened because of a personal fight between him and Shambhu, who is the main accused. As per reports, Shambhu had given money to a friend of Ashokan. Later, Shambhu allegedly threatened this friend to return the money. This created a big argument between Shambhu and Ashokan.
The terrible incident happened on the evening of May 5, 2013, at Alamcode Junction. That evening, Ashokan was attacked in a very brutal way. He was hacked and beaten to death, shocking everyone in the area.
In total, 19 people were initially accused in this case. However, two of them later became witnesses for the prosecution, and one person died during the trial.
Finally, eight people were let off without punishment, while eight others were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.
