Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna described paper leaks as a form of corruption that shatters students’ dreams and undermines their rights. Highlighting its damaging impact on trust in public education and employment systems, he emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the Lokpal and agencies like the Central Vigilance Commission. Public trust, he noted, is crucial for the Lokpal’s effectiveness in addressing such issues.

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna described the recent paper leak as a form of corruption that “shatters the dreams and aspirations of countless students,” significantly impacting their right to public education and job opportunities.
He warned that each instance of such corruption undermines public trust.
Khanna emphasized that,
“The mere establishment of the Lokpal does not resolve the issue of corruption,”

Asserting that the anti-corruption mediator must work in close coordination with agencies like the Central Vigilance Commission.
Speaking at an event to mark the first Lokpal Day, he stated,
“For Lokpal to realize its full potential, it is essential to coordinate seamlessly with bodies such as the Central Vigilance Commission and other agencies. Smooth collaboration is crucial for guiding investigations. The success of Lokpal will depend on public trust and an engaged citizenry committed to eliminating corruption.”
On the same occasion, Lokpal chairperson and former Supreme Court Judge Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar mentioned that efforts are underway to incorporate advanced technology and systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their processes.
Public trust, he noted, is the foundation for the Lokpal’s effectiveness in tackling issues like corruption, including paper leaks. Without trust, citizens may hesitate to report wrongdoing or engage with the Lokpal, undermining its ability to investigate and take action. Trust ensures transparency, accountability, and public cooperation, which are essential for the Lokpal to function as a strong anti-corruption institution. When people believe in the Lokpal’s impartiality and efficiency, it enhances the credibility of the system, encourages whistleblowing, and strengthens the fight against systemic corruption that impacts critical sectors like education and employment.
