Justice M.M. Sundresh was born on July 21, 1962, in Erode, Tamil Nadu, to Mr. V.K. Muthusamy, a Senior Advocate at the High Court of Judicature at Madras. He spent his early years in Erode, where he completed his schooling and pre-university education. He later pursued higher studies at Loyola College, Chennai, earning a B.A. degree. Driven by a passion for law, he went on to obtain an LL.B. degree from Madras Law College.

Career as an Advocate
Justice Sundresh enrolled as an Advocate in 1985 with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, marking the beginning of his legal career. Practicing at the High Court of Judicature at Madras, he gained valuable experience under eminent advocates, including S. Sivasubramaniam and his father, V.K. Muthusamy. He developed expertise in Civil (Appellate), Criminal, and Writ Jurisdiction, earning a reputation for his legal proficiency.
From 1991 to 1996, he served as a Government Advocate for the Tamil Nadu State Government and acted as Counsel for the Tamil Nadu Small Scale Industries Development Corporation. Beyond his legal practice, he contributed to community initiatives as a member of the Monitoring Committee for implementing the Reverse Osmosis System in the districts of Thiruppur, Karur, and Erode.

Judicial Career
Justice Sundresh was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Madras on March 31, 2009, and confirmed as a permanent Judge on March 29, 2011. Over his 12-year tenure at the High Court, he demonstrated exceptional judicial efficiency, disposing of 1,03,563 cases.
On August 31, 2021, he achieved the pinnacle of his career with his elevation to the Supreme Court of India, reflecting his dedication, legal acumen, and years of outstanding service to the judiciary. He is said to serve the Supreme Court for a 6-year long term.
