Shweta Tiwari Withdraws Petition To Quash Forgery Case After Police Close Probe: Bombay High Court

Television actress Shweta Tiwari withdrew her petition to cancel a forgery case against her after the police filed an A-summary report, citing insufficient evidence. The case, filed by her ex-husband Abhinav Kohli in 2021, alleged forgery of his signature on a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) in 2017 for their son’s UK visa. Tiwari argued the FIR was motivated by personal disputes and highlighted Kohli’s consent during a 2018 UK trip. The High Court accepted the closure report, and the case was dismissed.

Shweta Tiwari Withdraws Petition To Quash Forgery Case After Police Close Probe: Bombay High Court

MUMBAI: Television actress Shweta Tiwari took back her petition in the Bombay High Court to cancel a forgery case filed against her. This happened after the police submitted an A-summary report, which explains why a criminal investigation is being closed because there is not enough evidence to proceed.

On December 18, the High Court bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Neela Gokhale accepted the report filed by the Bandra-Kurla Complex Police. They allowed Tiwari to withdraw her petition.

This case began in March 2021 when Tiwari’s ex-husband, Abhinav Kohli, accused her of forging his signature on a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) in 2017. The NOC was allegedly used to get a visa for their son to travel to the UK. Later, the visa was canceled after Kohli informed the British consulate that he had never signed any NOC.

After a First Information Report (FIR) was registered regarding this matter, Tiwari went to the High Court, asking them to cancel the case against her. In her petition, Tiwari stated that the FIR was filed many years after the alleged incident, in 2021, and she claimed this was because of personal disputes between her and Kohli.

Tiwari explained that in 2018, she and Kohli had traveled to the UK for their son’s physiotherapy, and at that time, Kohli had given his consent for the NOC. She argued that the FIR was filed much later, only after their relationship worsened further. Kohli reportedly became concerned that Tiwari might try to take their son abroad again without his approval.

The Bandra-Kurla Complex Police later filed an A-summary report, closing the case due to a lack of evidence. Tiwari and Kohli had divorced in 2019, after Tiwari accused Kohli of domestic violence.

Senior Advocate S. Purohit, along with advocates Chaval Patil and Sapna Sharma, instructed by K. Ashar & Co., represented Shweta Tiwari in the case. Additional Public Prosecutor M. H. Mhatre appeared for the State.
