Sameer Wankhede vs Aryan Khan: Delhi High Court Directs Parties to Submit Written Arguments, Next Hearing on November 10

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday (October 30) heard the defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede against actor Aryan Khan’s Netflix series “Ba***ds of Bollywood.” The Court directed all parties to file their written submissions and listed the matter for November 10, 2025.

The series, directed by Aryan Khan and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, has sparked major controversy for allegedly depicting a character resembling Sameer Wankhede, the former Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) who led the high-profile 2021 Aryan Khan drug raid case in Mumbai.

Earlier in the Court

Before the Delhi High Court’s latest hearing on October 30, the defamation case had already seen several key developments.

On September 25, IRS officer Sameer Wankhede filed a ₹2 crore defamation suit in the Delhi High Court against Netflix, Red Chillies Entertainment, and others over Aryan Khan’s series “Ba**ds of Bollywood.”* He alleged the show falsely portrayed him through a character resembling his persona, harming his reputation while his 2021 Aryan Khan case is still pending. Wankhede said the damages would be donated to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.

On September 26, the Delhi High Court questioned the maintainability of Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit, noting it failed to establish jurisdiction under Section 9 of the CPC. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav allowed Wankhede to amend and refile the plaint to clarify how the cause of action arose in Delhi.

On October 8, the Delhi High Court summoned Netflix, Red Chillies Entertainment, Google, Meta, X Corp, and others over Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav directed them to file replies, stating no general injunction could be passed at this stage.

Background

The lawsuit is rooted in events from Aryan Khan’s arrest in 2021 during an NCB drug raid on a Mumbai cruise ship. Aryan, along with Arbaaz Merchant, Munmun Dhamecha, and others, was taken into custody on charges of possession, consumption, and sale/purchase of banned drugs. Aryan spent 25 days in jail before being granted bail, and Wankhede, then the Zonal Director of the NCB, was later removed from the case amid allegations of blackmail.

The Netflix series “Ba***ds of Bollywood” allegedly includes scenes resembling Wankhede’s actions during the arrest, which prompted him to file the suit seeking injunctions, takedowns, and damages of Rs 2 crore, which he has stated will be donated to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
