Today, On 5th December, Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a rape case after the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court rejected his initial plea. He faces multiple sexual misconduct allegations and was suspended by the Congress party.

Rahul Mamkootathil, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), approached the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail in connection with a rape case filed against him by the Nemom Police.
This comes after the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court rejected his initial bail application the previous day.
The Congress party suspended Mamkootathil’s membership in August following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct brought forth by several women.
While he resigned from his role as Youth Congress Chief, he continues to serve as an MLA for the Palakkad constituency.
The current bail plea stems from a rape case initiated based on a written complaint made directly to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 27.
The complaint alleges that Mamkootathil committed rape, resulted in pregnancy through sexual assault, and forced an abortion. The complainant also claims that Mamkootathil threatened her by recording their intimate moments.
He faces charges under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 64 for rape, Section 89 for forced miscarriage, Section 316 for criminal breach of trust, Section 351 for criminal intimidation, Section 329 for trespass, and Section 116 for causing grievous hurt.
Additionally, he has been charged under Section 66E of the Information Technology Act for violating privacy.
In his anticipatory bail petition, Mamkootathil admits to having a physical relationship with the complainant but asserts that it was entirely consensual.
