This catastrophic event resulted in the tragic loss of many lives. The court emphasized the need for accountability and stringent measures to prevent such disasters. The officials responsible are urged to be held accountable for this preventable tragedy.
Gujarat : The Gujarat High Court, led by the Chief Justice Justice Sunita Agarwal, strongly criticized the state government during a suo motu hearing on the Rajkot TRP Game Zone fire incident. The court expressed deep grief and anger over the tragedy, which resulted in multiple fatalities.
The High Court described the Rajkot fire as particularly catastrophic compared to other recent incidents. The bench warned that responsible officials would be held accountable, emphasizing that negligence will not be tolerated.
The court stated that it is awaiting a report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and will issue orders based on the findings of the investigation.
The Gujarat High Court lashed out at the recurrence of such tragic incidents, citing similar disasters in Morbi and Harni.
The court questioned why the government consistently shielded its contractors, criticizing the Municipal Commissioner and attributing the frequent accidents to the negligence and inaction of municipal officials.
In a direct confrontation with the government, the court demanded the timely submission of affidavits and condemned the ongoing delays. The court also criticized the suspension of junior officers while senior officials remained untouched, condemning the presence of senior officers at the inauguration of the game zone, implying their involvement in illegal constructions.
The High Court directed the government to submit a final fact-finding report by June 16.
Additionally, the court ordered the government to disclose the fire safety measures implemented in the educational sector state-wide, including detailed fire safety assessments for educational institutions across district and urban divisions.
The fire broke out on 25th May, reportedly due to welding work being conducted at the gaming zone. Alarming details have emerged about the facility’s lack of essential safety measures, including the absence of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department and having only one entry-exit point. These deficiencies facilitated the rapid spread of the fire. Furthermore, the presence of thousands of liters of petrol and diesel on the premises exacerbated the disaster.
The tragic loss of 27 lives, including innocent children, has left the community in mourning. As the investigation continues, authorities are focused on providing justice for the victims and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
