A distinguished lawyer specializing in criminal law, Giri previously served as Additional Advocate General and comes from a family with a legacy of service in the military.

Allahabad: Advocate Pravin Kumar Giri has been appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court. The appointment, made by the President of India under Article 217(1) of the Indian Constitution, was announced via an official notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on January 23, 2025.
The notification, released from Jaisalmer House in New Delhi, confirmed that Advocate Praveen Kumar Giri will take charge as an Additional Judge on the date he assumes his role. This move underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary by appointing experienced and capable advocates.

Born on January 20, 1975, in Vishunpura Buapur village, Azamgarh, Praveen Kumar Giri comes from a family with a legacy of service. His father, Komal Prasad Giri, served as a warrant officer in the Indian Army. Giri received his early education at Janata Inter College in his village and later pursued his BA, LLB, and LLM degrees from Allahabad University.
In 2002, Giri began practicing in the Allahabad High Court under the mentorship of Senior Advocate Anand Dev Giri, a former Solicitor General of India, and Shashank Dev Giri. Over the years, he specialized in criminal law and built a distinguished legal career.

In 2017, the Uttar Pradesh government appointed Giri as Additional Chief Standing Counsel, and he was later promoted to Additional Advocate General, becoming the youngest person in the state to hold this position.
