Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, a cleric from the Barelvi sect, wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a ban on the film ‘Chhava.’ He alleged that the film incited communal tensions and directly contributed to the Nagpur violence.

Mumbai: Today, 21st March, A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court demanding the demolition of the tomb and its removal from the list of national monuments.

Who Filed the PIL?

A person named Ketan Tirodkar has filed the PIL in the Bombay High Court. He has requested the court to direct the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb from the national monument list, arguing that it does not align with Section 3 of the Archaeological Survey of India Act, 1958.

Police have booked Fahim Khan, the key accused in the Nagpur violence, along with five others, on charges of sedition and spreading false information on social media. Officials confirmed this on Thursday, stating that curfew had been lifted or relaxed in some areas of the city three days after the violence.

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, a cleric from the Barelvi sect, wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a ban on the film ‘Chhava.’ He alleged that the film incited communal tensions and directly contributed to the Nagpur violence.

Amid demands from right-wing groups to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khultabad, Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar district, the ASI has put up tin sheets on two sides of the historical structure.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly condemned the violence in Nagpur, emphasizing, “India is known for unity in diversity.

Nagpur Cyber Crime Department has reached out to Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube to block 230 profiles that allegedly spread misinformation.

DCP Cyber Crime Lohit Matani stated,

“The probe so far has indicated that misinformation was spread initially after some videos were shared on social media, which fuelled the violence, and more videos ‘glorified’ the violence.”

Six individuals, including Khan, who is the Minority Democratic Party’s city chief, have been booked for sedition in FIRs registered by the cyber police, Matani confirmed.

What Triggered the Nagpur Violence?

Officials revealed that the violence in Nagpur was triggered by rumors that a ‘chadar’ with holy inscriptions was burned during protests led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which demanded the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb.

Following directives from the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district administration, ASI has reinforced security at Aurangzeb’s tomb.

A local official stated, “The green net covering two sides of the tomb was in bad shape, and the structure was visible to those visiting the nearby Khwaja Syed Zainuddin Chishti grave. So we have installed tin sheets.”

Additional security measures include wire fencing, which was put up on Wednesday night, and a circular fence that will soon be installed around the tomb.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) has criticized Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for blaming the film ‘Chhaava’ for the Nagpur violence, stating, “Blaming the film ‘Chhaava‘ for the Nagpur violence was a sign of his weak morale.”
