Parents have filed a plea in Delhi High Court after DPS Dwarka allegedly expelled 32 students over unpaid fees. The school is accused of violating court orders and mistreating children.

New Delhi: Today, On May 15, Parents of 32 children who were allegedly removed from Delhi Public School (DPS), Dwarka, have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court.

The expulsion came after a disagreement over a fee hike. The parents are now requesting the court to order the school to take their children back.

They said the school ignored all written complaints and reminders sent to the Directorate of Education (DoE).

The school also did not deposit cheques that the parents had submitted for the approved school fees and refused to accept any further payments after that.

The petition filed by the parents says that DPS Dwarka acted in an unfair and forceful manner by removing 32 students from the school without sending any prior notice or giving a fair reason.

This action, they claim, goes against the court’s orders and basic rules of justice.

Some of the students who were expelled are currently in Class X. They had already finished the pre-registration process for their board exams while they were in Class IX.

According to the parents, removing the children from school during the middle of the academic session is harmful for both their studies and their emotional health.

The parents have also made serious allegations about how their children were treated during this time.

They said that the children were

“ill-treated and were threatened by the bouncers, and then were kept in a bus for two hours, and then finally dropped off at home.”

In addition, they mentioned that on 14.05.2025,

“more bouncers, including lady bouncers, were deployed,” and they found it very shocking that “neither the police officials nor any other person in the administration is willing to help, as they say that the matter is sub-judice.”

The current petition from the parents was filed after DPS Dwarka challenged an order issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on July 18, 2024.

In that order, the NCPCR had asked the police to file an FIR (First Information Report) against the school. This was based on complaints that students were expelled, their names were made public on the school’s website, and in one case, a girl student was allegedly denied help during her menstruation.

However, on July 30, 2024, the Delhi High Court put a stay on the NCPCR’s directive.

Last month, the Delhi High Court made strong comments against DPS Dwarka after reports surfaced that students were locked inside the library and were not allowed to attend classes because their fees were not paid.

The Court criticised the school’s conduct, calling it “shabby and inhuman,” and added that it seemed to be “more like a money-making machine” than a real school.

The judge also said the way the children were treated was similar to “torture” and warned that “the principal could potentially face criminal prosecution.”

This case has brought serious attention to the practices of private schools in Delhi and raised questions about the protection of students’ rights.

The matter is still under the consideration of the Delhi High Court.
