The Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench has issued notices to the UP government and Bar Council over a PIL alleging that advocates were running a marriage centre from a chamber at the old court campus.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court issued notices on Friday to the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, the Central Bar Association, the state government, and the court’s administrative side regarding a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the operation of a marriage center by advocates within a chamber at the old high court campus in Kaiserbag.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 22.
Justices A.R. Masoodi and Shree Prakash Singh delivered the order on the PIL, which was initiated after the court learned of the marriage center during a criminal writ petition hearing.
Upon reviewing a police report, the court observed that the chamber was decorated with flowers and set up for a marriage function. Given the gravity of the situation, the court decided to file a suo-motu PIL.
During the proceedings, it deemed it essential to gather the opinions of the high court administration, the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, the Central Bar Association, and the state government, issuing notices to all parties involved.
The case was brought forward by Arun Kumar Yadav, who claimed to represent both himself and a woman named Shivani Yadav, asserting that she had married him of her own free will.

The petition requested a court order to prevent the police and others from intimidating the couple at the request of Shivani’s family. It included an alleged marriage certificate issued by the “Pragtisheel Hindu Samaj Nyas” and photographs depicting the supposed ceremony held at “Brahmastra Legal Associates,” Chamber No. 31, Old CSC Building, Kesarbagh, Lucknow.
Earlier, The Court directed that the case be referred to the Division Bench responsible for handling suo motu public interest litigations to investigate the “unsavory activities” of advocates within the Lucknow District Court premises.
