Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Threats & Extortion Calls To Music Producer: Delhi HC Orders Government To Extend State Protection

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court, on December 5, issued a directive to the Delhi government to extend state protection to music producer Amandeep Batra following reports of threats and extortion calls allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldie Brar gangs.

Justice Jasmeet Singh emphasized the urgency of the situation, instructing the Delhi government to take appropriate measures within ten days to enhance Batra’s security.

Pending this, the Court ordered immediate steps to safeguard Batra’s safety, stating,

“He has every reason to be scared.”

Allegations of Threats and Extortion

In his submission to the Court, Batra disclosed that he had been receiving continuous threats and extortion calls from individuals claiming affiliation with the gangster Goldie Brar. Furthermore, Batra alleged that members of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, led by the incarcerated gangster, were also involved in the intimidation.

Batra attributed these threats to a personal vendetta involving businessman Prateek Chaudhary. He claimed that Chaudhary, who allegedly has strong ties with both Bishnoi and Brar, was orchestrating the harassment.

Additionally, Batra implicated his ex-wife, citing her close association with Chaudhary as a factor in the situation.

FIR Filed but Threats Persist

Although a first information report (FIR) has already been registered based on Batra’s complaint, the music producer informed the Court that the threats persisted despite this action. He highlighted inadequacies in his current security arrangements, pointing out that while a police officer had been assigned for his protection, the officer’s presence was inconsistent.

Batra said the officer only made occasional visits, leaving him vulnerable.

Batra appealed to the Court for enhanced security, stressing that he was living under constant fear for his life and freedom.

Petitioner Cites Rising Violence Against Public Figures

In his petition, Batra referenced the recent wave of killings targeting prominent figures in the country, including Baba Siddique, Sidhu Moosewala, and Nadir Shah. These incidents, he argued, underscored the urgency and necessity of adequate police protection for individuals facing similar threats.

“Keeping in view the recent rise in killings in the country targeting public figures such as Baba Siddique, Sidhu Moosewala and Nadir Shah, the Petitioner is in need of urgent and adequate police protection,”

-Batra stated in his plea to the Court.

Legal Representation

Batra was represented by Senior Advocate Abhimanyu Bhandari, along with Advocates Arjun Syal, Mehak Jaggi, Nimisha Gupta, Nattasha Garg, and Tanaya Aggarwal.

On behalf of the Delhi government, Additional Standing Counsel Rahul Tyagi appeared during the proceedings.

Court’s Directive

Justice Jasmeet Singh underscored the state’s responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, particularly those facing credible threats.

The Court ordered the Delhi government to prioritize the matter and take immediate action to protect Batra’s life.

This case highlights the increasing concern over the safety of public figures and professionals in India, bringing attention to the growing nexus between criminal elements and personal vendettas.
