The Karnataka High Court has directed the State Lokayukta to report on its investigation into the MUDA scam involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Activist Snehamayi Krishna’s petition calls for a CBI probe, expressing doubts about the Lokayukta’s impartiality. The court has scheduled further hearings, emphasizing the need for transparency. The case includes allegations of corruption against Siddaramaiah and others.

Karnataka: The Karnataka High Court Today, on November 5th, directed the State Lokayukta to submit the details of its investigation into the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Justice M Nagaprasanna issued notices to Siddaramaiah, his co-accused, and both the Union and State governments following a petition requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

The petition, filed by activist Snehamayi Krishna, sought a CBI investigation, expressing concerns about the Lokayukta’s ability to conduct an impartial probe given its position within the State government. Senior Advocate KG Raghavan, representing Krishna, argued that the public’s trust in a fair investigation was at stake if the Lokayukta conducted the probe without external oversight. The Court scheduled further hearings for November 26 to delve deeper into these concerns.

The MUDA scam allegations have intensified following earlier court proceedings. In September, Justice Nagaprasanna dismissed Siddaramaiah’s plea challenging the Governor’s sanction for corruption charges related to the allotment of MUDA land to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi. Following this, the Karnataka Lokayukta registered an FIR against the Chief Minister and three others, implicating them in corruption, cheating, and forgery charges connected to MUDA’s site allocations.

The case continues to unfold, with mounting calls for a CBI probe to ensure accountability and transparency in the high-profile corruption case. The High Court’s directive now places the Lokayukta under scrutiny, with its findings set to play a critical role in shaping the direction of the investigation and restoring public confidence in the process.
