NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has registered a high-profile inheritance dispute involving the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, his third wife Priya Kapur, and the children of his first marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor.
The matter, before Justice Jyoti Singh, revolves around allegations that Priya Kapur may have forged Sunjay Kapur’s will to gain complete control over his estimated ₹30,000 crore estate.
The Allegations
The children, represented by Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, claim that:
- Sunjay Kapur never mentioned the existence of a will during his lifetime.
- After his death, Priya Kapur allegedly suppressed the will for over seven weeks, only revealing it at a family meeting at Taj Mansingh, Delhi, on July 30, 2025.
- They were asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before being allowed to see the document.
- The will was unregistered, raising questions about its validity, especially given Sunjay’s meticulous approach toward securing his children’s inheritance.
- Priya Kapur has been appointed MD of AIPL with a ₹1 crore monthly salary, approved by director Dinesh Agarwal, while the children remain excluded.
Jethmalani argued that the circumstances surrounding the will are “suspicious,” pointing out the sudden appearance of the document and the refusal to provide copies to the rightful heirs.
Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani says,
“The suit will be registered now. They have to make certain discoveries about personal assets of Sunjay Kapur. The matter is now fixed for 9th October…”
Defense by Priya Kapur
Senior Advocates Rajiv Nayar and Akhil Sibal, representing Priya Kapur, countered that:
- The will is valid under the law, even if unregistered.
- The will was executed before witnesses in March 2025 and shared via a WhatsApp group between Sunjay and Priya Kapur.
- The children have already received ₹1,900 crore from the trust, demonstrating that they are beneficiaries.
“What more do they want”?
She asked
The children moved the high court seeking shares in the assets of the late businessman and questioned the authenticity of his will, which they allege was forged by Priya to gain control over the assets.
Priya’s counsel, contesting the claims, argued before Justice Jyoti Singh,
“Not as if people are left on the streets.”
- Priya Kapur is a widow with a six-year-old child, and the court should consider her circumstances, as she was involved in lengthy litigation with Karisma Kapoor in the past.
The defense further insisted there is nothing suspicious about the will or the steps taken regarding Sunjay Kapur’s estate.
The Court’s Response
Justice Jyoti Singh took a measured approach, directing:
- Registration of the suit and issuance of notices to Priya Kapur.
- Filing of replies within two weeks, with rejoinders from the plaintiffs within one week.
- Submission of a complete list of all movable and immovable assets as known to Priya Kapur, declared as of June 12, 2025.
- The original will be brought to court in a sealed envelope.
- Consideration of a non-disclosure arrangement for sharing the will with the children, similar to practices in intellectual property matters.
The matter has been listed for October 9, 2025, for a hearing on interim injunctions and further proceedings.

Background
In a high-profile family dispute, the children of Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor and late businessman Sunjay Kapur have approached the Delhi High Court seeking their share in their father’s estimated Rs 30,000 crore estate.
The children alleged that Priya Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, had forged his will to claim complete control over the assets, leaving them unfairly excluded. The disputed will, dated 21 March 2025, reportedly bequeaths the entire estate solely to Priya Kapur.
The suit names Priya Kapur, her minor son, Sunjay Kapur’s mother Rani Kapur, and the executor of the will, Shradha Suri Marwah, as defendants. The children claim that Priya, along with associates Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, concealed the will for over seven weeks and disclosed it only at a family meeting on 30 July 2025.
They have argued that the will is forged and fabricated, citing suspicious circumstances and refusal to provide them with a copy. Through their petition, the children seek:
- Declaration as Class I legal heirs under the Hindu Succession Act.
- Partition of the estate, granting each child a one-fifth share.
- Interim freezing of all personal assets of Sunjay Kapur to prevent misuse.
The petition was filed by Shantanu Aggarwal of Lexster Law LLP and Madhulika Rai Sharma.
