Justice Sushrut Dharmadhikari Takes Oath as 55th Chief Justice of Madras High Court

Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari was sworn in as the 55th Chief Justice of the Madras High Court at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan. Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi administered the oath in the presence of senior ministers and top State officials.

Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari has officially taken oath as the 55th Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, marking an important development in the judiciary of Tamil Nadu. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan, where Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office.

The event was attended by several senior officials and dignitaries from the State government and judiciary, reflecting the significance of the appointment. Among those present was Tamil Nadu Natural Resources Minister S Regupathy, along with other prominent members of the State administration.

Chief Secretary N Muruganandam led a delegation of senior government officials who attended the ceremony to welcome and honour the newly appointed Chief Justice. Their presence highlighted the importance of the role and the expectations associated with the leadership of one of India’s oldest High Courts.

Justice Dharmadhikari’s appointment comes after the Central government approved his elevation as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. His elevation is considered an important step in strengthening the judicial leadership of the High Court.

The Madras High Court, established in 1862, is one of the oldest High Courts in India and plays a crucial role in the administration of justice in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. The appointment of a new Chief Justice is therefore seen as a significant moment for the functioning of the court.

Justice Dharmadhikari brings with him extensive judicial experience and a long career in the legal field. His tenure as Chief Justice is expected to focus on improving judicial efficiency, ensuring timely justice, and strengthening the institutional functioning of the court.

The ceremony at Lok Bhavan symbolised the formal assumption of office by Justice Dharmadhikari, with senior government officials, ministers, and administrative leaders coming together to witness the occasion and extend their support to the new Chief Justice.

With this oath-taking, Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari has formally assumed charge as the head of the Madras High Court, becoming the 55th Chief Justice of the historic institution.
