Chandigarh: Today, on Dec 9th, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to provide Mehboob Pracha, the petitioner, with comprehensive records from the 2024 Haryana Legislative Assembly Elections.
The High Court instructed the election officials to supply the entire videography, CCTV footage, and copies of Form 17C (Part I and Part II) for all 90 assembly seats in the state.
This directive came in response to a petition filed by Pracha, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the recently concluded elections. Form 17C, a critical document in the electoral process, contains details about the polling and vote counting.
The court’s order ensures that all election-related data is made available for scrutiny, reinforcing the importance of a fair and transparent democratic process.
This ruling is expected to set a precedent for increased transparency in electoral proceedings, emphasizing the necessity for robust documentation and review mechanisms to maintain the integrity of the electoral system.
The High Court’s decision is likely to have far-reaching implications for the management and oversight of elections across the country.
