Delhi court accepts police closure report in POCSO case against ex-WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Minor’s statement didn’t support charges; case officially cancelled.
New Delhi: Today, On May 26, A Delhi court has accepted the closure report filed by the Delhi Police in the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a former BJP Member of Parliament.
This means that the case has now officially been closed and cancelled. The matter was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Gomati Manocha at the Patiala House Courts.
The Delhi Police had filed a report earlier saying that no evidence was found to support the allegations made under the POCSO Act.
The report said that the minor wrestler, who was earlier reported to have made allegations against Singh, later changed her statement.
The police concluded that there was not enough material to proceed with a trial.
The court agreed with the police’s findings and noted that after thoroughly examining the entire case file and all the statements, there was no solid ground to continue the legal proceedings.
Accepting the closure report, the court said,
“There is no sufficient material to proceed further in the present case.”
The police had earlier informed the court that
“the statements of the minor victim recorded under Section 164 CrPC do not support the allegations of sexual offence.”
They also mentioned that the father of the girl had made the complaint due to emotional reasons and concerns about his daughter’s career.

He reportedly told the police,
“He felt very emotional seeing the plight of women wrestlers who were protesting and wanted to support them.”
It was also stated in the report that the father said,
“He thought if he added the name of his daughter in the complaint, it would add more strength to the complaint.”
However, later the girl herself clarified her position and did not support the allegations. Because of this, the police concluded that “no case under the POCSO Act is made out against the accused.”
The court, after hearing all sides and carefully considering the police report and the available evidence, said,
“The complainant has not supported the allegations made in the complaint.”
The court further said,
“Even the statements given by the girl under Section 164 CrPC do not point to any sexual offence.”
After hearing all the facts, the judge concluded that there was no need to proceed with the case and hence accepted the closure report.

With this order, the POCSO case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has officially ended.
