The Karnataka government informed the High Court that ACP Vikash Kumar, suspended after the Chinnaswamy stampede, has been reinstated. The Court disposed of the related petitions following his return to duty.

Bengaluru: On August 1, the Karnataka High Court was informed that the State government has cancelled the suspension of Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vikash Kumar Vikash and allowed him to return to duty.

ACP Vikash was earlier suspended following a tragic stampede that took place outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The incident occurred during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The crowd had gathered in large numbers, and the situation went out of control, resulting in a stampede.

Following this, the State government took disciplinary action and suspended ACP Vikash, who was among the senior officers responsible for maintaining law and order at the event.

However, the suspension order was challenged before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). After reviewing the matter, the Tribunal decided in favour of ACP Vikash and revoked his suspension.

Dissatisfied with the CAT’s order, the Karnataka government then approached the High Court, seeking to overturn the decision.

When the matter came up for hearing before the Division Bench of Justices SG Pandit and TM Nadaf on Friday, the State’s counsel, Senior Advocate PS Rajagopal, made a submission.

He informed the Court that the government had accepted the CAT’s order and had officially revoked the suspension of Vikash Kumar Vikash. He stated that the officer has also resumed duty from Friday.

“Vikash Kumar Vikash has been reinstated and has resumed the duty today,”

submitted Senior Advocate PS Rajagopal before the Court.

Taking this development into consideration, the High Court disposed of all the petitions related to the CAT order, effectively bringing the legal proceedings in this matter to an end.

This case has drawn public attention due to the high-profile nature of the IPL event and the administrative handling of crowd management.

The reinstatement of ACP Vikash Kumar Vikash highlights the role of the judiciary and administrative tribunals in checking executive decisions and ensuring fairness in disciplinary actions.
