Calcutta High Court Denies Urgent Hearing on Suvendu Adhikari's Sandeshkhali Visit
CALCUTTA HIGH COURT

KOLKATA: On 29th February, the Calcutta High Court’s division bench, headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam, has declined the West Bengal government’s plea for an urgent hearing on the challenge against a single bench order. The order had granted permission to Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari to visit the tense Sandeshkhali region.

The single bench, on the previous day, permitted BJP MLA Adhikari to visit Haldarpara in the Jeliakhali village panchayat area of Sandeshkhali. The state sought the court’s permission to file an appeal challenging this order, along with a request for an expedited hearing.

Chief Justice Sivagnanam, however, rejected the plea for an urgent hearing, citing the court’s pressing commitments. The court advised the state to proceed with filing the appeal, emphasizing that it can be addressed through the regular process. This development marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Adhikari’s visit to Sandeshkhali.
