Bhuvan Bam has initiated a lawsuit for the infringement of his personality rights, claiming that various entities have exploited his name, voice, image, likeness, and other aspects of his persona without proper authorization or permission.
The YouTuber contended that such actions constitute a violation of his personality and publicity rights, as well as infringements of registered trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property jointly owned by the two plaintiffs.
Bam and his company, BB Ki Vines, asserted that they have established a distinct recognition among the public, and that unauthorized commercial use by third parties is likely to create confusion and deception.
The court remarked,
“I have a different view on that [personality rights]. On the first day, I can’t render a finding on personality…I am of the view that this finding of personality on the first date is not called for…No one can render a prima facie finding on personality rights is how I see it,”
Bam is one of India’s leading digital content creators, boasting over 26.6 million subscribers on YouTube, along with a substantial following on social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
