Srinu, along with his mother, undertook an indefinite hunger strike to secure bail, ultimately succeeding with the High Court’s decision. Despite seven previous bail applications being denied by lower courts, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has now granted bail to Srinu, enabling his release into the public sphere after the October 2018 Kodi Kathi incident.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted bail to J. Srinivasa Rao, the main accused in the assault on YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The attack, which occurred on October 25, 2018, saw Srinivasa Rao allegedly wielding a knife typically used in cockfighting, targeting YS Jagan in the VVIP lounge of the Visakhapatnam airport.
After his bail plea was dismissed by the NIA court, Srinivasa Rao turned to the High Court for relief. A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, comprising Justices U. Durga Prasad Rao and Kiranmayee Mandava, reserved judgment on the bail appeal filed by Srinivasa Rao in the Kodi-Kathi case.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s absence from court proceedings as a witness was leading to undue delays in case. Following deliberations, the court reserved its decision on the matter.
Srinivasa Rao sought bail from the High Court, challenging the Visakhapatnam NIA Court’s rejection of his plea under Section 6A(b) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act of 1982.
