The Allahabad High Court has accepted a petition against Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya. The petition claims that Maurya presented afakedegree while applying for a license to run a petrol pump and while contesting elections.

Earlier, the High Court had rejected the petition because it was filed after the allowed time limit. However, the Supreme Court intervened and instructed the High Court to allow the petition, despite the delay.

The petition was filed by Diwakar Nath Tripathi, an RTI (Right to Information) activist. In his petition, he argued that Maurya had obtained his degree from a university in Prayagraj called the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has labeled this institution as a “fake” university, making the degree questionable.

The legal battle has raised questions about the authenticity of educational qualifications required for public office and how such issues should be addressed.

Maurya’s degree is now under legal scrutiny, and the case could have serious implications on the eligibility of public figures who may have relied on such degrees to gain positions of power or run businesses.

Legal experts are now keeping a close watch on how the court handles the issue of the “fake” degree and what further steps will be taken in the case. It’s also drawing attention to the role of the UGC in identifying and declaring such institutions as fake.

This case highlights the growing need for transparency and the importance of validating educational qualifications, especially for individuals holding public office.
