NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, March 12th, the Supreme Court Collegium made a significant decision on recommending the elevation of five additional judges to permanent judges at the Allahabad High Court.

The judges appointed are:

  • Justice Saurabh Srivastava
  • Justice Om Prakash Shukla
  • Justice Mohd. Azhar Husain Idrisi
  • Justice Jyotsna Sharma
  • Justice Surendra Singh-I

The permanent positions began with a unanimous recommendation from the High Court’s Collegium on May 1, 2023. The Chief Minister and Governor of Uttar Pradesh also supported this recommendation. The Supreme Court Collegium initially paused the appointments for further review but, after examining their recent work, confirmed their promotion.

A special committee reviewed ten judgments from each judge, rating them from ‘very good’ to ‘good’. This assessment, along with additional reviews including a recent report from March 4, 2024, ensured that only judges of the highest merit were selected for permanent positions.

The appointment of these five judges as permanent members of the Allahabad High Court is a significant step in strengthening the judiciary in Uttar Pradesh. .
