Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav made remarks about the caste of Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Air Marshal AK Bharti, suggesting that the BJP would have “abused” them if it knew their caste.

A fresh political controversy has started just days after the nation praised its brave women officers for their role in Operation Sindoor.
This time, the focus is on comments made by Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ram Gopal Yadav about the caste of Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Air Marshal AK Bharti.

Yadav said, “If the BJP knew about the caste of Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Air Marshal AK Bharti, they would have ‘abused’ them too.”
This remark did not go down well with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Several BJP leaders slammed Yadav, saying that his comments were not only disrespectful but also aimed at dividing the nation on caste lines.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak strongly criticised the SP leader’s statement. He said:
“The Samajwadi Party has displayed its low mentality and anti-woman thoughts by disrespecting her based on her caste. Ram Gopal Yadav’s statement is shameful and condemnable.”
He further added:
“Disrespect to Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is not just to her but to the entire nation. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is not just a name but a symbol of India’s pride and women’s empowerment.”
Uttar Pradesh Minister Baby Rani Maurya also condemned Yadav’s caste-based remarks.
She said:
“I just want to say that be it Sofiya Qureshi or Vyomika Singh – they are the daughters of India and making comments related to their castes by Ram Gopal Yadav is condemnable. It’s not a good thinking to divide the country based on caste and religion. They just want to gain politically. They’ll not be getting Dalit votes by doing such politics.”
The fresh controversy comes even as BJP minister Kunwar Vijay Shah is already facing legal action for his alleged distasteful remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, one of the key women officers who recently briefed the nation about Operation Sindoor.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and other women officers have become national icons after their contribution to Operation Sindoor. However, instead of being honoured, some political leaders are dragging their caste and religion into political debates.
In the same case, on 15th May, The Supreme Court strongly criticized Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah for his controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, strongly criticised the remarks made by Minister Vijay Shah, calling them unacceptable and insensitive. He emphasised that those holding constitutional posts must be careful and responsible in their public statements.
Questioning Shah’s conduct, the Chief Justice remarked, “What sort of comments are you making? You should show some sense of sensibility. Go and apologise in High Court.”
Madhya Pradesh’s Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah has filed a petition in the Supreme Court today, challenging a recent decision of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The High Court had ordered the registration of an FIR against Shah for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Indian Army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi.
Shah has requested the Supreme Court to hear his petition urgently.
